Erected in 1892, the New Hartford Soldiers Memorial honors New Hartford soldiers and sailors who served in the War of the Rebellion from 1861 to 1865, listing those who served in the 17th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 28th, and 29th Connecticut Infantry; the 1st Squadron Connecticut Cavalry and 1st Connecticut Cavalry; the 1st and 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery; U.S. Volunteers, the U.S. Navy, and 3d U.S. Artillery; the 2nd, 3d, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Connecticut Infantry; and New Hartford residents who enlisted from Iowa, Rhode Island, New York, and Illinois units.
