Dr. John W. Trenton served the people of Preston County for nearly 30 years as the county's only general surgeon from 1955 to 1982. He died in 1999, and in appreciation for the years Prestonians supported him in his work, he left his money in trust to be returned to benefit the county's citizens. In tribute to his love of academics and athletics, his trust contributed to the renovation of the track and field facility, forming part of Dr. Trenton's legacy.
