Between 1832 and 1843, the Old Oregon Trail passed through the Walla Walla Valley. In 1840, Robert Newell and Joe Meek brought wagons to Fort Walla Walla. In 1842, White, Lovejoy and Hastings led the first emigrants. In 1843, Whitman, Applegate and Barnett, and Nesmith guided the train between Old Fort Walla Walla and Waiilatpu.
