Evergreen Cemetery

Established about 1854, Evergreen Cemetery was the first public cemetery in Ocean Springs. Known as “the resting place of the fathers and mothers,” it has accepted burials regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity since its establishment. Among those buried there are some of the most prominent citizens in Ocean Springs history, including artists Walter Anderson and Peter Anderson; civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Jesse Trotter, Sr.; and abolitionist, reformer, and suffragette Hannah Tracy Cutler.
