Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, known as the Mitchell Park Domes, is a Milwaukee botanical complex of three glass domes, each maintaining a different climate for seasonal floral displays, tropical plants, and desert species. Opened between 1964 and 1967, it replaced an earlier conservatory in Mitchell Park, one of Milwaukee’s six original parks. Its collections include nearly 1,000 tropical plant species, a long-lived cacao tree from the old conservatory, and notable arid-region plants including Welwitschia. The domes have faced repeated structural threats, closures, and public preservation campaigns, yet remained a prominent city landmark, with renovation plans approved in 2024.
