At Battleground Prairie, eighty volunteers commanded by General Edward Burleson defeated Vicente Cordova and seventy-five Mexicans, Indians, and Negroes on March 29, 1839, drove them from Texas, and ended the "Cordova Rebellion." Twenty-five of the opposing force were killed, and many volunteers were wounded, but none fatally.
