Gen. John Hunt Morgan's cavalry passed through here on December 31, 1862, returning from its second Kentucky raid after taking supplies. During the raid, the Union rail supply line was wrecked and $2,000,000 in property was destroyed, and the force went on to Tennessee. Morgan came through here again after a three hour battle at Tebb's Bend on July 4, 1863, then continued the raid into Indiana and to northeast Ohio, where he was captured on July 26th.
