Six service members from Blauvelt gave their lives for their country: Corporal Manuel Lopez of the U.S. Army, killed in action on April 12, 2005; Captain Phillip Esposito of the U.S. Army, killed in action on June 8, 2005; Corporal Steve Vahaviolos of the U.S. Marines, killed in action on May 11, 2006; Specialist 4 Justin Garcia of the U.S. Army, killed in action on November 4, 2006; Sergeant Edward Bolen of the U.S. Army, killed in action on November 10, 2010; and Major Thomas Kennedy of the U.S. Army, killed in action on August 8, 2012.
