After the construction of the San Francisco and North Pacific Coast Railroad, now the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, in 1872, businesses began locating around the new train depot at the corner of Windsor Road and Windsor River Road. This area became known as Windsor Station, and as it grew it became New Windsor and then West Windsor. An 1898 atlas said West Windsor was a branch from the old town that had outgrown its parent and was called into being through the advent of the railroad. For many travelers arriving in Windsor by train, the Reiman Hotel was their destination. Built in the 1890s and also known as the Western Hotel, Reiman had 18 rooms that rented for $1.00 to $1.50 per night. Most references to East and West Windsor were not eliminated until the 1960s, when the town simply became known as Windsor.
