Gros Cap Reefs Light is a Canadian lighthouse on Gros Cap Reef at the entrance to the St. Marys River from Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior, where it marks a dangerous narrowing for vessels bound toward Sault Ste. Marie. Completed in 1953, it replaced a lightship that had served there since 1923 and altered regional navigation enough that Point Iroquois Light was deactivated in 1962. Owned by the Canadian Coast Guard, the station now consists of the original three-story base with keeper’s quarters and a skeletal mast carrying a flashing red light visible for 12 miles. A helipad and formerly a non-directional beacon reflected its practical evolution.
