Don Pedro Lake was created by Don Pedro Dam on the Tuolumne River near LaGrange. The project was completed in 1971 to provide irrigation, domestic water, flood control, electricity, recreation, and fish enhancement. It was constructed by City and County of San Francisco Hetch Hetchy Water and Power, Turlock Irrigation District, Modesto Irrigation District, and the Federal Power Commission under License Number 2299, with financial assistance from the U.S. Corp of Engineers and the California Department of Water Resources under the Davis-Crumsky Act. At full water surface, its elevation is 830 feet U.S.G.R., with storage of 2,030,000 acre feet, a shoreline of 160 miles, and a surface area of 12,960 acres.
