The Stars and Bars flew from this flag pole, the last original Confederate flag staff still standing in Georgia. Hewn from a long leaf pine tree that grew one mile southwest of Blakely in Early County, the pole was hauled into town by a yoke of oxen and erected where it stands by Thomas Williams and others on May 16th, 1861.
