Outside Versailles, Kentucky, the Bluegrass Railroad and Museum operates from Woodford County Park as both a railroad museum and a heritage excursion line. Founded in 1976 by members of the Bluegrass Railroad Club, it grew from efforts to preserve equipment from local railroads and moved through several locations before settling at its present site in 1988. Its operating line uses a surviving 5.5-mile section of track from a longer railroad once tied to the Louisville Southern, Monon, Southern, and Norfolk Southern systems. Excursion trains run through central Kentucky horse country to Tyrone and Young's High Bridge, preserving a fragment of regional rail history that might otherwise have vanished.
