Blue Mountain
Nature
Blue Mountain is a 1,420-foot summit in the Kittatinny Mountains of Sussex County, New Jersey, within Stokes State Forest on the Appalachian Trail. It overlooks Quick's Pond and Mecca Lake and is tied to an older regional naming history, as Blue Mountains once could mean the entire Kittatinny range in New Jersey, while the Watchung Mountains were also sometimes called blue. In modern New Jersey, the name usually refers only to this peak, though the ridge in Pennsylvania is still widely known as Blue Mountain. The mountain also preserves colonial history, as the Lawrence Line dividing East Jersey and West Jersey crosses the ridge here.
