Cottonwood Canyon
Nature
Cottonwood Canyon is a water-carved canyon in central Kane County, Utah, formed where major geological regions meet. Its course follows weaker lines in the earth’s crust that erosion gradually opened into a canyon. The surrounding landscape is part of its significance, with the lower steps of the Grand Staircase to the east and the Kaiparowits Plateau rising to the north. Cottonwood Canyon Road, an unpaved route, passes through this terrain and part of the canyon, connecting it to a broader sequence of notable geological features across the area.
