A band was organized in East Germantown, and its members enlisted in 1862. They were assigned to the Twelfth Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, fought with General Ulysses S. Grant, and marched with General William T. Sherman from Atlanta to the sea. It was erected in memory of D.W. Kocher.
