Devil's Den-Ewing Mountain is a protected wildland in western Virginia's George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, recognized by The Wilderness Society as one of its Mountain Treasures and part of the Mount Rogers Cluster. Centered on the ridge of Ewing Mountain, with Devil's Den and Chestnut Knob at either end, it includes remote sections, Collins Cove, and the biologically sensitive Raven Cliff area, where karst features and limestone-influenced soils support unusual forests and wildlife. Cripple Creek flows below the ridges, adding scenic and ecological value. Old logging roads and railroad grades reflect heavy early twentieth-century timbering, while later road building and clear-cutting intensified concerns about protecting the area's remaining wild character.
