La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs is a rock art site near Santa Fe, New Mexico, on a mesa above the Santa Fe River, with thousands of carvings along a route later used by travelers on the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. The petroglyphs are generally attributed to Keres and Tanoan language speakers between the 13th and 17th centuries, though another theory dates them much earlier, from 8000 to 2000 BC. Their imagery includes many birds and repeated Kokopelli figures. A 1991 survey counted more than 4,400 carvings, but their meanings remain uncertain, many are hard to interpret, and vandalism has damaged the site.
