C.H. Cranmer / Hazelton House was a Queen Anne Victorian style private home built in 1898 at a cost of $5,000. Its features included fish scale shingles, stained glass windows, a two story turret with a witches hat roof, gingerbread trim, two inside stairways, a personal ice house, a windmill, a carriage house, and a hitching post for horses. Originally lighted by gas, it was the second residence in town to have a telephone, the second home to be electrified in 1923, and the first home in Ocean County to have an automobile. The large front parlor was used only on Sundays, and at its peak thirteen servants catered to the owners.
