Muskegon Pier Light stands at the end of the south pier on Muskegon’s harbor channel as an active lighthouse and a surviving link to the port’s long maritime history. The site’s first light was built in 1851 and replaced in 1870, with a pier-end beacon added in 1871 and later connected by catwalk as the harbor works expanded. The present light was built in 1903, reusing the earlier lantern room. Harbor changes in the late 1920s and early 1930s brought a new breakwater light and the removal of the pierhead light’s fog horn, catwalk, and extension. Since 2010, the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy has preserved the light and opened it for public tours.
