Barrow County Museum in Winder, Georgia, occupies the former Barrow County Jail, built in 1914, and preserves artifacts related to the county’s past. Home to the Barrow County Historical Society, it presents exhibits on local history and on subjects closely associated with the area, including Senator Richard B. Russell and Fort Yargo. The museum also keeps a small granite monument honoring unknown Confederate dead that formerly stood at Triangle Park in Rosehill Cemetery. Together, the collections and the building connect Barrow County’s history with the story of one of Winder’s early civic structures.
