The community center was first known as Crab Orchard. It became the county seat of Bland County when the county was formed in 1861 under the name of Seddon, which was later changed to that of the county. At Rocky Gap, a skirmish was fought in Crook’s Raid against the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad in May 1864.
