Vimy Peak is a 2,385-metre mountain in Waterton Lakes National Park, rising above the east shore of Waterton Lake and marking the northern end of Vimy Ridge. Renamed in 1917 to honor the Canadian Army’s victory at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, it replaced earlier names such as Sheep Mountain and Goat Mountain; the Geographical Names Board of Canada officially adopted Vimy Peak in 1943. The mountain is formed of sedimentary rock laid down from the Precambrian to the Jurassic and later thrust eastward over younger Cretaceous rocks during the Laramide orogeny. Its runoff drains into Waterton Lake and the Waterton River.
