The Wyoming was a six-mast coastal schooner built at this shipyard in 1909 and was the largest wooden vessel built in the United States. Capable of carrying 6,000 long tons of coal, she was the largest of seven six-masters and many other vessels built here. A white-painted steel sculpture now stands at the site where the schooner was built, set somewhat closer to the street because of wetlands protection regulations. The sculpture is the same size as the original Wyoming, with the deck level of the stern 40 feet in the air, and it is the first portion of a work that will eventually show the shape of the entire length of the hull and all six masts.
