Barboursville honors military sons and daughters and veterans everywhere who have faithfully served the United States of America in peace and war, including those who answered the call to serve in the military, completed basic training, learned to follow orders and work as a team, and served at bases, stations, and other installations in the U.S. and around the world until their tours of duty were complete. It salutes those who left home and loved ones to fight or serve in distant lands, those who faced enemy fire, those wounded in battle and who shed blood in defense of the country, those who suffered wounds, injuries, stress, and resulting physical or mental disabilities, those captured as prisoners of war, unknown soldiers, those still missing in action, and the thousands who gave their lives so others might live in peace and freedom.
