Cabool dedicated this memorial to members of its community who served in the World War from April 6, 1917, to Nov. 11, 1918, naming Captain Louis M. Edens, Captain Richard H. Stogsdill, Captain Walter W. Durnell, Lieutenant Alva R. Teater, and Red Cross nurses Sophia Beck and Ethel Bley. It also honors in memoriam those "who sleep in Flanders Fields where poppies grow": John L. Vollmar, Walter Coats, Warren Skyles, Earl Foster, Alva Garten, Clarence Goll, and Sam D. Floyd, as well as those who died in United States camps: Robert L. Varner, Jesse Ellis, Elmer B. Weatherman, and Wille E. Brown.
