In Dundee, Michigan, the Old Mill Museum occupies the former Alfred Wilkerson Grist Mill on the River Raisin, widely regarded as the village’s oldest surviving structure. Built in 1849 atop a dam first constructed in 1827 and rebuilt in 1846, the mill supported Dundee’s early milling economy, later generated the village’s electricity, and then narrowly escaped demolition in 1934 when Henry Ford bought and restored it for his village industries program. After later use for paper products, the village acquired the property in 1970 and turned it into a museum and park. The site preserves Dundee’s evolution from frontier milling to hydroelectric power and Ford-era manufacturing.
