Hooker School was named in honor of Major General Joseph Hooker, who was born at Hadley, Mass., Nov. 13, 1814, was educated at Hopkins Academy, entered the U. S. Military Academy as a cadet in 1833, served there from 1833 - 37, served gallantly in the Mexican War, commanded the Army of The Potomac, was wounded in action in the Civil War, retired as a Major General in 1868, was commended for skill by General Sherman, and died in Long Island in 1879; the original building was completed in 1922 and an addition was completed in 1951.
