Hibbing, Minnesota, was the starting point of Greyhound Lines, which grew from a local passenger service begun in 1914 for iron ore miners. Carl Wickman, also identified as Eric Wickman, worked with Andrew “Bus Andy” Anderson and C. A. A. “Arvid” Heed, using a 1914 Hupmobile to carry miners between communities. By 1918 the business had expanded to 18 vehicles and merged with Ralph Bogan to form the Mesaba Transportation Company, later rebranded as The Greyhound Corporation in 1930. The collection in Hibbing preserves this history through historic buses, the original Hupmobile, and artifacts linking the town to the rise of the world’s largest bus company.
