On Thursday, May 14, 1914, the first day of operations, the men made $11.50. The second day they cleared $7.50. Three days later on Saturday, they made $20.00 after expenses. A transportation system was born as they named it Hibbing Transportation Co. and the “hup” that would grow into the Greyhound Bus Co. A sign on the bus read Hibbing to Alice $.15, and Hibbing became known as the birthplace of the bus industry.
