Julius Valentine Hofmann, the first Director of the School of Forestry at North Carolina State University, provided the pioneering vision, energy, and resourcefulness that led to the establishment in 1934 of Hofmann Forest, a 78,000 acre tract dedicated to demonstrating sound forestry education and practice.
