Raisin pie was still known as leicht, or funeral pie, and was a favorite at gatherings of family and friends held after funeral services, so much so that it was rarely served except at these funeral gatherings. In the Big Valley, cake and wine are still served at funerals. Up until World War I, everyone who attended a Pennsylvania Dutch funeral was invited to dinner, and these gatherings were known as sees-koocha schpree, or sweet cake spree.
