The Edward R. Ladd Arboretum is a twenty-three-acre botanical garden in Evanston, Illinois, extending in a long, narrow corridor between McCormick Boulevard and the North Shore Channel on land leased from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. Created in memory of Edward Rixon Ladd, founder, publisher, and editor of the Evanston Review, it began with the planting of a ginkgo and was formally dedicated on June 10, 1960. Organized by plant family, it includes specialized gardens and landscape features, while the adjoining Evanston Ecology Center adds exhibits and nature programs that make the site both a cultivated landscape and a center for environmental education.
