Designed in 1905 by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Charles A. Brown House is a private two-story residence at 2420 Harrison Street in Evanston, Illinois. Modest in scale, it is significant within Wright’s early Chicago-area residential work. The clapboard house contains four bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor. Its most revealing feature is the use of sash windows, a conventional form Wright was abandoning at the time and one he reportedly used here for one of the last times. That detail places the house at a transitional moment between more traditional domestic design and the distinctive architectural language that later defined his work.
