Nationally renowned sports artist Amadee Wohlschlaeger of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in St. Louis, Missouri, conceptualized and designed "The Boy and The Man" as a drawing in 1963, and it was unveiled to the public in the August 18th edition of the Post-Dispatch. As part of the many honors and gifts presented to Stan "The Man" Musial upon his retirement, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. presented him with a large framed lithograph of Amadee's "The Boy and The Man," which is displayed inside the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Missouri Sports Hall of Fame President and Executive Director Jerald L. Andrews proposed that "The Boy and The Man" statue be placed on permanent display at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and sculptor Harry Weber, who constructed the statues of the Cardinals Hall of Famers at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, was chosen to develop it. The statue serves as the cornerstone attraction on the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame's Legends Walkway, recognizing and honoring the career and life of Stan "The Man" Musial.
