Immigrants from South Carolina settled in this area of Conecuh County in the 1870s, and as the local population increased, residents needed a local post office. David Robinson petitioned the U.S. Postal Service for a post office with a Biblical name, and in 1907 the postal service approved the request and named it Paul. The post office opened in 1908, with David Robinson as the first postmaster. His son, Erastus (Raz) O. Robinson, became postmaster in 1920, and he sat in a special wooden chair on the porch listening as locals shared news and stories. Raz's wife, Linnie Jane, managed the post office until 1970, and her niece, Lucy N. Pate, took over and operated it there until opening a new location in 1975. The postal service closed the post office in 1987. For many local residents, it was the center of town activities and a gateway to the world. The old Robinson home stands next to the old post office building, and the property once owned by Erastus O. and Linnie Jane Robinson, A. R. and Lucy N. Pate, and Joseph E. and Julie P. Moore is listed in the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
