After returning from a historic victory over LSU in Memphis in 1909, the University of Arkansas football team was greeted by a large crowd of fans and students at the Fayetteville train station. Coach Hugo Bezdek told the crowd that his team played "like a wild band of Razorback hogs." The following year the student body voted to change the official mascot from the Cardinals to the Razorbacks, giving birth to one of the most unique and recognizable mascots in the country.
