The bell was mounted on the Grover Hill town hall in 1899 and was removed when the building was razed in 1959. It was placed here in August 1961 in memory of the members of the Washington Engine Company of Grover Hill, which was organized in 1893. It is also dedicated to the members of all successive Grover Hill fire departments.
