In Davenport, Florida, this institution serves as a hall of fame, museum, and archive devoted to water skiing. Founded in 1980 and administered by the USA Water Ski Foundation, it preserves the sport’s history from Ralph Samuelson’s 1922 beginnings through later competition, performance, and technical change. Originally established in Winter Haven near the famed Cypress Gardens Water Ski Show, it later moved to its current home in Davenport. Its collections include memorabilia, vintage skis, equipment, photographs, press clippings, and material tied to historic events. Created in 1982, the hall of fame honored skiers, pioneers, officials, and show skiers, inducting 63 people by 2012 for major contributions to the sport.
