Cordell–Lorenz Observatory in Sewanee, Tennessee, is owned and operated by Sewanee: The University of the South as a working astronomical observatory serving both the university and the surrounding community. Known especially for its 1897 Alvan Clark refractor with a 6-inch aperture in the main dome, it also includes several other telescopes from 3.5 to 12.5 inches in aperture, combining historic and modern equipment. The observatory regularly hosts public observing nights on Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the university session, generally from mid-August to mid-December and from mid-January to mid-May.
