Sawtooth Mountain is a mountain and ancient shield volcano in southern Washington’s Indian Heaven Wilderness, roughly between Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams. At 5,354 feet, it is the wilderness’s third highest point and one of the most recognizable peaks in the Indian Heaven Volcanic Field. Formed during the Pleistocene and Holocene along the Indian Heaven fissure zone, it is an eroded remnant whose summit has weathered into welded volcanic rock spires, creating its jagged profile. Free of permanent snow and ice, it stands within a volcanic landscape also valued for recreation, with trails, lakes, meadows, and broad views of surrounding Cascade peaks.
