Lemei Rock is a shield volcano in southern Washington and the highest point in the Indian Heaven Wilderness, rising 5,925 feet within the Indian Heaven volcanic field. Formed during the Pleistocene and Holocene, it is part of a polygenetic volcanic landscape built by many eruptions along a 19-mile fissure zone with about 60 eruptive centers. Its summit crater holds small Lake Wapiki below the high point, and the mountain’s shape reflects both volcanism and weathering. Streams from its slopes feed the White Salmon and Lewis rivers. Lemei Rock is also a wilderness recreation destination, with trails, summer huckleberries, and broad Cascade views.
