Chief White Crane Recreation Area is a state recreation area in southeastern South Dakota, west of Yankton along the Missouri River and Lake Yankton near Gavins Point Dam. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after the dam’s construction, it became part of the Lewis and Clark Recreation Area when ownership passed to the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks in 2001. The site serves camping and water recreation with 145 campsites and 10 camper cabins. Fishing, kayaking, and canoeing are popular there, and in winter the river corridor is known as a roosting area for bald eagles.
