Kings Dominion is a major amusement park in Doswell, Virginia, opened in 1975 after development inspired by the success of Kings Island. Built on a large site north of Richmond, it grew from early attractions such as Lion Country Safari, Rebel Yell, and its Eiffel Tower replica into one of the Mid-Atlantic’s leading parks. Through changing ownership, it expanded with notable roller coasters, a water park, and later film- and television-themed areas under Paramount. The park also played an unusual role in Virginia public life through support for the so-called Kings Dominion Law, which delayed the start of public schools before Labor Day until 2019.
