Keowee-Toxaway State Park, on Lake Keowee in Pickens County, South Carolina, was created in 1970 from former Duke Power land and developed as an outdoor recreation area in the foothills. It offers picnic shelters, fishing and boating access, backcountry and paved campsites, cabins, and several walking trails, including Raven Rock Trail and Natural Bridge Trail. The park also preserves part of the region’s Cherokee heritage. Its museum has presented exhibits on the Cherokee and their interactions with local settlers, and although one related interpretive trail has closed and its artifacts were moved to Walhalla, the park still joins natural scenery with regional history.
