A grist mill for corn was built about 1873 by pioneers Lemuel P. Wolfe and Abbey Wilson. Powered by oxen treading an inclined wheel, it also housed the area's first post office in the millhouse. The mill became the center of the settlement called "Wolfe's Mill," which was incorporated in 1886 as "Wolfe City."
