Mount Warren, just to the south, was the home of Wilson Cary Nicholas. He served in the Continental army, represented Albemarle County in the General Assembly from 1784 to 1789 and from 1794 to 1799, and was a delegate to the Virginia Convention of 1788 that approved the United States Constitution. Nicholas was a member of the U.S. Senate from 1799 to 1804, served in the House of Representatives from 1807 to 1809, and was governor of Virginia from 1814 to 1816.
