History

This land is the traditional territory of the Nuwhaha. Land acknowledgements are a way people insert an awareness of Indigenous presence and land rights into everyday life, often at the beginning of ceremonies, lectures, and education guides. They offer an explicit yet limited recognition of the history of colonialism and First Nations, as well as a need for change in settler-colonial societies. A related educational map is imperfect and does not represent official or legal boundaries of any Indigenous nations, and definitive boundaries should be sought from the nation itself.
