Gudgeonville Covered Bridge was an 84-foot wooden Multiple King-post Truss span over Elk Creek in Girard Township, Pennsylvania, built in 1868 by William Sherman and later rebuilt after an early fire. Long regarded as Erie County’s oldest surviving covered bridge, it may also have incorporated remains of the Erie Extension Canal in its foundations. In its final years, the bridge had become too narrow for many modern vehicles and was repeatedly damaged by vandalism and small fires, while federal inspectors rated it in basically intolerable condition. After its destruction in an arson fire in 2008, a temporary bridge was installed in 2009 to avoid a two-mile detour.
