Joshua Thomas was born at Potato Neck in Somerset County and spread Methodism on Tangier, Deal, Saxis, and Spring Islands. British troops at Tangier Island called him the “Parson of the Islands” after, as their pastor, he predicted their defeat at Baltimore in 1814. He was buried beside the chapel that bears his name.
